As of now I am employed at a convalescent hospital which is one foot in the door in my future career as a nurse. Before I could have cared less about my education but while working I developed a motivation to go to college. Seeing the nurse’s work hard every day to help someone they never met before is something that not a lot of people have. Now that I am working full time and attending school flow is the only thing keeping me sane. Pink states “…by realizing that creating a flow-friendly environments that help people move toward mastery can increase productivity and satisfaction at work” (p.115). Which works for me all the time. However, I can see where flow is abused, some people are lazy and take advantage of flow-friendly environments. Those employees are what Pink likes to call extrinsic behaviors. By giving employees work without a time frame the job may never get done or could get rushed last minute to meet the time limit. “Intrinsic motivation have higher self-esteem, better interpersonal relationships, and greater general well-being than those who are extrinsically motivated” (p.78).
