Collagen Video Analysis

At the beginning of the video, they are promoting a collagen powder to improve skin and to reverse aging. By definition, collagen is a strong elastic fibrous protein that holds together several body structures (Wardlaw p476). In the same video, Dr. Rosemarie Ingleton doesn’t necessarily advice the oral intake of collagen because it can be deposited to other areas of the body. Collagen does not only exist in skin because it is also an essential component of other connective tissues such as bones, ligaments, blood vessels and the eyes (Wardlaw p476). Another advice of Dr. Ingleton is that if people want to improve their skin they should buy topical collagen and apply it directly where they need it. At the very end of the video, another doctor named Dr. Whitney Bowe share the same sentiments as Dr. Ingleton, where she said that people should use topical collagen for local skin problems. …show more content…
The structure of collagen is like a 3-stranded rope and Vitamin C is necessary to form the strong triple helix of the collagen. (Wardlaw p476). The video does not necessarily apply to me since I’m a firm believer that taking care of my own body will do more than a supplement can. Also, having proper diet and enough sleep are good methods of conserving my health overall. Lastly, I just find it amusing how the collagen powder consumer in the video rely on social media to make her skin healthy. She should at least consult a proper dermatologist or nutritionist on what’s good for her skin because such products are money driven. Unless doctors and nutritionist recommend the product, I don’t think it is necessary for
