We have learned a lot of material, which has allowed us to have successful group sessions. We have also learned how to make excellent eye contact with each other and understand when a group member’s is making certain non-verbal gestures. Furthermore, we have learned how to stay more focused on our topic during our group sessions. During this activity I learned several interesting facts about each member. I learned that Sasha moved to several different places throughout her childhood. I also learned that her mother raised her because her father passed away when she was a child. In addition, I learned that Juleesa loves to draw and that her favorite holiday is Christmas. I also learned that she lives at home with her mother and brother because her mother and father divorced when she was a child. Morever I learned that Christina was raised in the Bronx and she did not like living in the Bronx because it was dangerous. I also learned that know she lives with her boyfriend in area safer the Bronx and she is very happy their because she never lived in a house before she had only lived in a apartment her entire youth. I also learned that sometimes I emerge as the group leader because I don’t mind being the first one to speak in the group because I am extremely comfortable with my group members. Throughout this activity I had a few strengths and weaknesses as a group member. My strength as a group member is that I am easy to talk. Also, I am extremely talkative and outspoken. As far as my weakness as a group member is that I tend to get extremely quiet and nervous when respond I have the tendency to jump into others conversation by mistake. This is a bad habit that I have had for a long time because I tend forget thing quickly so I try to say things quick before I forget what I want to say. Something that group members may have learned from participating in this group activity that may help them in their daily lives is that they need to be tremendously understanding and respectful to group members because each member may have different cultural beliefs and standards. After watching relationships among my group members, I learned several different things that may help understand the needs of others in future groups. For example, I learned that some members may have a different beliefs and quality of life because they come from a different culture background. Furthermore,

For me the activity of working as a group especially with other individuals who I have not worked with or talked to before was a good learning experience that had both positive and negative outcomes using Driscoll’s model of reflection as a frame work to elaborate on how I interpreted what happened, what impact the situation had on me and what I will do in the future if presented with a similar situation (Driscoll and Teh, 2001). We were required to do a 10 minute presentation for a health promotion project that we developed. I decided to work with other individuals who I didn’t know and have not worked with before as I believed I would be more productive and respectful if I worked with people I didn’t know very well. For the first tutorial…

My intention for participating in this faculty led trip is to first experience and explore a new culture and second to learn more about something I have always enjoyed; marine life. I have always loved traveling and exploring, especially when it has a positive impact on other people or, in this case, an ecosystem filled with life. As a member of the QU Women's Soccer Team and an Athletic Training/Physical Therapy student, my academic and athletic schedule makes it very difficult to do any study abroad or service trips during the school year. When I saw this opportunity, I thought this trip would be a great way for me to be able to pursue my love of travel and making a differences without interfering with my busy schedule during the year and…

I am interested in hearing other people’s ideas and working with them to effectively fix any errors.…

Social Work with Groups course is giving me more insight to the other courses that I have taken previously and some of those that I am currently rolled in such as Social Work with Families and Community Development. After reading the textbook and the discussions in class, the theories of group counseling, viewing groups through multicultural lens, leadership qualities and functions, co-facilitator and group development stood out for me and broaden my perception into Social Work as a profession. The first thing that caught my attention this time is that, theories of counseling are also applicable to group counseling. I learned about the theories in my social work practice class last year. This show how important the theories are to me as an emerging social worker.…

Leading a group even though I tried to come off confident, is a weakness I am still working on. I doubt myself and my emotions. I hold on to what I want to say because I know professionally I need to say it in a professional matter. I have been taking this class for nearly three months. During three months, I learned a lot about small group communication, especially the group climate and interaction are going well in our group. For instance, our group member Erik and Jo always said some words of praise and encouragement, such as “we are really a good group”.…
