Collaboratively Reflective Report

The key aspects discussed in this reflective essay are my personal experiences as a consumer, producer and sharer of information in a 21st-century environment, developing the skill to determine credible sources, the advantages and limitations of working collaboratively online and how to exploit advantages and overcome limitations. Therefore, a proper exploration into each of these aspects can allow an insight into one’s experiences in this unit.
An essential point to explore is how this unit has developed my knowledge and skills in an online world/ before entering into this unit I did not have a great understanding bout the online world. By saying this numerous content has been covered to develop my knowledge and skills in an online world.

First, let’s look at the advantages of working collaboratively online. Theses aspects are: networking and social learning (Chiong, R., Jovanovic, J., & Gill, T. G, 2012) and the limitations are: no participation of other group members and concern for ‘free riders’ (Chiong, R., Jovanovic, J., & Gill, T. G, 2012). Looking at these advantages and limitations, although working collaboratively has its advantages and limitations also important to consider if how to solve the limitations and celebrate the advantages. The advantages as listed above are important to exploit. Jacques, D. & Salmon, G. (2012), suggests that networking has developed relationships demonstrate listening, asking opinions and building on others. Hence, the advantage of networking is exploited when done correctly on a continues loop. As important is the social learning, as mentioned previous social learning can be seen to link to social constructivism which is a theory all about how learning that occurs socially help mature information. Therefore, social learning that occurs has ongoing effects on the student and other peers. In contrast to the advantages, the limitations that represent themselves in working collaboratively need to be overcome. The two limitations listed above can be overcome in a variety of ways, one way for both limitations are from the beginning deworming people’s roles within the group and discussing what should occur when nonparticipation has occurred. Hartley, P. (2010) mentions various group roles that can be employed to minimise the limitations or disadvantages of working online, such ones mentioned are a leader, team worker, and completed. Also having the discussion about what to do with no participation by members.
