Collaborative Social Impacts Negatively Affected Groups

1.2.1 Involve the diverse public- it is important to identify and involve all potentially affected communities and individuals. This is important because there could be a lack of understanding of the impacts and SIA process. Profiles should be developed at this stage of local and regional communities. By involving the public it also allows for recruiting participants who can adequately represent the affected groups (Seebohm, 1995).

1.2.2 Impact equity must be analyzed- The identified impacts should be differentiated between all affected groups and individuals so as to ensure that no specific people have to bear the adverse negative social impacts unnecessarily. One stakeholder profiles have been identified, social and cultural issues are also identified. It must be clearly defined as to who the winners are and who the losers are, with emphasis also being placed on any groups not represented (Seebohm, 1995).

The impacts that are identified by the public as most important should be given the highest priority. It is important that the SIA be broadly based as a way of ensuring that even low power groups, that could be adversely affected, are involved to make sure that all considerable public concerns are addressed (Seebohm, 1995).
1.2.4 Identify methods and assumptions and determine significance- The methods that are utilized to carry out the SIA should be identified and made public so that the assessments can be evaluated. A holistic approach should be carried out that should describe all aspects of the social impacts. The significance of the identified impacts must be defined in terms of the context and intensity, with context referring to the affected society and its interests and intensity referring to the consideration of health and safety, human resources and laws (Seebohm,
