The competency that I have excelled in is collaboration. If I were to define collaboration in my own words then, it would be a way to combine ideas and efforts with the group/person you are working with to achieve a common goal. So, to collaborate well means you have to work effectively with others, something I have demonstrated while working on the PSA. The way I displayed this competency was in the way we asked others to be actors in our commercial, such as how we used Zena Rawlins, in our Scapegoat video. I had also asked my friend Stephanie-Joy Yamada Fagota, to assist me with my group’s script. She had kindly helped me process my ideas and thoughts for our script. This relates to collaboration because I had requested for assistance

To communicate is the act of imparting or exchanging information with another. Good communication is finding an alternative way to discuss with your peers when you’re not present. For example, when I wasn’t here (which is frequent for me) to reach out to my teammates, I had to message them on a messenger app that we had set up in order to communicate with each other. Although they never responded in time, they still carried out my suggestions. In addition, during our pre-production week, we had to decide on our roles together and plan what we would be doing. As the newly appointed leader of Team Mystic, I led my group by instructing them on what to accomplish when I wasn’t there. Overall we’ve communicated with each other as frequently as possible to finish our commercials on our candidate, Charles Djou. Though if I were to improve on this competency I would be more specific with my requests and spam them with messages so they would see it and reply to it.
The third competency that I did decently in was creativity. To me, creativity means to express yourself with your own original ideas, but it's even better if you combine those ideas with others. For instance, when I was working with my group we had to come up with a story for our two PSA topics, which was scapegoat and transfer. While we did plan out everything for our video, we ended up changing some things with the

On August 9th, 2014, Michael Brown, a black man, was shot and killed by a white police officer named Darren Wilson. Witnesses accounts differ on whether or not the shooting was justified, but the evidence collected from the interior of Officer Wilson’s patrol car, from the street where the shooting took place, as well as the multiple autopsies suggested that the shooting did, in fact, concur with Officer Wilson’s version of events (1), and a grand jury chose not to proceed with charges against Wilson. Protests had begun in the hours after the shooting, as the story spread of the white police officer gunning down an unarmed black man, inflaming years of racial tensions that had been festering in Ferguson and around the country. In Ferguson in particular, the majority black population (67% of Ferguson residents) were being policed by a…

According to Goleman and Denhardt, the four components of emotional intelligence are self-management, self-awareness, social awareness, and social skills. The first component is self-management. The book states that self-management is “the ability to control or redirect disruptive impulses and moods and regulate your own behavior coupled with a propensity to pursue goals with energy and persistence.” There are seven competencies that deal with this component. Those competencies are self-control, trustworthiness, integrity, initiative, adaptability and comfort with ambiguity, openness to change, and a strong desire to achieve.…

Competency 2 also states that social workers should present themselves as learners. I presented myself as the facilitator for the day, students called me teacher and I told them I was not a teacher or expert in citizenship classes but still they called me teacher. Another point Competency 2 refers to is self-regulation to manage the influence of personal biases and values when working. To be honest I don't think someone could master this point who could put aside their own values? I think in one way or the other you will always say and suggest something base on your own beliefs or values.…

From my past experience, I believe that creativity is the discovery of something new and thinking outside the box in order to make way for new innovations. I Rickards’ (1985) definition of creativity advocates the same idea. He defines creativity as ‘the personal discovery process… that leads to new and relevant insights’. He also supports a view that portrays creativity to be the discovery of new and meaningful perspectives, or as an ‘escape from mental stuckness’. In this sense, Rickards also supports the belief that creativity is an inherently individual act (Von Stamm, 2008).…
