As I reflect back into my early childhood, I remember migrating to the United States with my mother leaving my brothers and sisters behind. It was really tough adapting to a new environment where the climate and the language were foreign to me. The first year of primary school was one of the hardest for me. Making new friends was not an easy task, I remember while all the children played with each other during the lunch period, I sat quietly and ate my lunch. When it was time for children to go outside to play in the school yard, I used to go to the library. I preferred the library over the playground not because I desired to read books, but because I felt it was a safe place where I was not required to speak.

Dove has provided me with guidance on how to be an collaborative teacher. Throughout out the book Honigsfeld & Dove emphasized in the importance of teacher collaboration. Co-teaching involves the distribution of responsibility among people planning instruction and evaluation for a classroom student. They made it clear that “Teacher collaboration can have a tremendous influence over the way instruction is plan and delivered for ELLs and a great impact on how these students are regarded. It involves sharing student information, lesson ideas, teaching strategies and sharing classroom space”. I strongly agree with this belief and have put it into practice. This can be achieved by creating a welcoming environment in which our students can interact with each other to promote problem-solving and critical thinking. It is my responsibility as a teacher to prepare students to the real world outside the classroom by providing them with a curriculum that addresses real-world contexts. I make sure that my students get the opportunity to experience a safe and welcoming environment by creating a student-centered classroom. I strongly believe that in a student-centered classroom, students will be more motivated in learning because they are directly involved in building their own knowledge through peer interaction. As well this teaching method will encourage students to work in collaboration allowing them to have equal opportunity to express their thought improving their skills in critical
