Colin Wilson Conformism

When the ancestors of our past look at our culture, the way things are handled, and they way people handle things today, I am sure they all have a different opinion. Some may believe that we have created a corrupt society and others may think that we have well educated the people in our culture today. Colin Wilson a well quoted man believe that the society has become corrupt and that the average man in our society and become nearly useless. Colin Wilson once said,” The average man is a conformist, accepting miseries and disasters with the stoicism of a cow standing in the rain”, I heavily disagree with this statement.

The first statement that Wilson makes, is that the average man today is a conformist. From my understanding a conformist is someone that is more than likely to convert or follow someone else within a certain thought process or decision someone is making. I believe it to be self evident that in today’s society men are not conformist, but rather individually independent.I have been attending school for nearly twelve years and one thing that I have been constantly taught was the ways of being independent and standing out as an individual that differs from others. First off, let's point out a cow standing in the rain does not react, the cow just stands there. This term reminds me of people that say “I just roll with the punches” or “go with the flow”. I do not believe that the average men in our society “rolls with the punches”. I find that when things happen in our society people generally take control and try to better or change the situations. Most people try give their own opinions. Ever since this country started trying to form a government the main concern was people not having the ability to have their voice or opinion
