Every gameday there's the same routine. The players take turns warming up, then come out of the tunnel. Everyone stands for the National Anthem and they start playing. August 14 Colin Kaepernick hears the anthem start and he takes a seat. He goes unnoticed for the first time, but he starts gaining attention. Athletes in this nation have a voice that reaches across the nation to all age groups and people. They consistently are on the national stage with all eyes on them. Being able to use their voice to bring something to attention is a gift. Around the U.S a common issue is injustice to minorities, mainly African Americans. They follow how they act they dress like they dress and consume what they consume and believe what they believe. In this article it supports this, “Professional athletes are celebrities, and millions of kids around the world (including myself) grow up watching them play.”(Dadigan 1). Kids everywhere want to dress like Russell Westbrook or shoot like Curry. Why can’t they use their voice to spread awareness to something impacting the country. People may think he is distracting from what his job and his purpose is and that's football. These players aren't just a part of a team and part of the NFL. They are people with beliefs and values they stand for. The things he is fighting for and trying to bring to attention are positive things that are for the better of the country and the culture of the nation. They say he is disrespecting it in fact someone said, “The moment (Kaepernick) takes a knee, it triggers that long-standing fear of the dangerous and disloyal.” (Armour 2) People who don’t want any difference in the athletes or how they speak out need to accept the fact that the nation has to be changed for the greater
