Experimenting On Animals By Colin Blakemore: Article Analysis

“Some would have you believe there are alternatives for all animal research or that animal testing is always misleading and unsafe.” (1) These people are correct; animal testing is a very unethical way to do research and it can and should be avoided. I found “Should we experiment on animals? Yes” by Colin Blakemore, online at Telegraph. I disagree with Colin Blakemore’s belief that animal testing is ethical and is an accurate way to do research. Animal testing does not bring accurate results, it is very costly, and it is abuse, therefore, it should be abolished. In this article, Colin explains that multiple diseases and illnesses have been treated because of the use of animal testing. Our government spends billions of dollars every year towards animal testing. It will cost more than tissue and cell experimenting as well as imaging and models. On page 2, it says that “No one chooses to use animals where there is no need. It gives no one pleasure, and it is time-consuming, expensive…” But there are less expensive ways to research that bring better results, so why do scientist always jump to do testing on animals? The answer is they are easy targets and scientists can do whatever they would like to. Scientists do not have to worry about being taken to court or shut down because one of the animals they tested on reported them. If people would be in their place and be the experimental subjects, these science labs would have already been shut down. They only care about the money which is why they use animals. It brings them better profits by being able to hide the process of their tests and still finding a result that somewhat works. They will start finding other things to make them money accidentally by doing unnecessary experimenting with these
