Cold War Satire

Improved Essays
America with deep sorrow I tell you this. America if we can see farther than others it is because we have stood on the shoulders of giants, and up here on those shoulders I can see 90 miles off the border and see Cuba there I see that the USSR has put nuclear missile parts there and more are on their way by ship. If we do not react I fear that the outcome will be not in our favor. The united states and the USSR have been in the cold war now and I fear that they will try to end the cold war here. The missiles that have been put in Cuba can travel far enough to hit northern cities

The response my and my advisors have chosen to start a blockade of Cuba in hope that the USSR will turn their ship around. If not for the safety of the united states

If any further action is taken by the Soviet ships to defy this blockade will be seen as a threat to the Western Hemisphere and therefore the U.S ships will be fired upon them. ANALYSIS: Modern day Political Satire VS Ancient Greek Satire: Political Satire originated in the 4th century BCE in Greece, in what was known as the Aristophanic Comedy. Aristophanes was a playwright of ancient Athens who used comedy to mock and explicitly criticize the governmental system at the time. His powers of ridicule were feared and acknowledged by politicians of the time. Aristophanes’ comedy was peculiarly democratic in a period where democracy was in stages of instability in Ancient Greece. Also, his plays and art were addressed to and reflect the life of ordinary citizens, as his humor was addressed to everyone in the Greek society, as oppose to some sorts of arts that only appeal to certain social classes.…

The Cold War and The Cuban Missile Crisis became the center of the political issues that captured America’s fears. Satire In Brave New World

Samuel L. Jackson once said, “We’ve come a long way in our thinking, but also in our moral decay.” This quote holds true today as society stays rapidly changing and people become more and more desensitized to the horrors of the world. The line between right and wrong fades and turns to a larger gray area, and many things that happen in society today make us question how we, as a collective people, ended up where we are and how we acquired the customs we have today. Aldous Huxley, in his novel Brave New World, uses a great deal of satire and exaggeration to express his concerns for the society he was born into and bring attention to the problems of moral decay, drug dependency, and brainwashing, among other things, in the world.…

“The brink of the Nuclear Holocaust” The movie was obviously about the Cuban missile crisis and I would say it was pretty intense that it gives you chills and makes your heart race. Being the head of the state, you’re mostly in control of every action that the government has to undertake and if you do it wrong you would most likely to be blamed by the whole population and you would no longer have the support of people. On a 13-day political and military standoff between the United States (U.S) and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) in October, there was so much tension that it alarmed the American people because they were afraid that the ballistic missiles that were deployed in Cuba could possibly damage two-thirds of their…

    High School Satire

Occasionally I look back on my high school experience and realize I never did a keg stand at a party, I never skipped class to get stoned, and I also never got the guy I had a crush on for three years. Instead, I was studying for that AP government exam, standing in front of my fellow science club members talking about how we can restore our local creek, or working on hitting fastballs for softball. When I catch myself feeling as though I missed out on stereotypical high school or even college experiences I watch a movie not just any movie but a teen comedy. My ideal teen comedy has a group of friends who are about to graduate high school or already have that feel like they missed out on the clique high school experience, in order to gain some…

One ominous morning of 2008 I woke up to a saddened atmosphere. I look around at my parents, who are hardcore republicans, and asked them what was wrong. They said that they had lost the election. My eight year old self replied that they never won because they never ran, and of course they explained that their party lost the run for presidency. For the years to come every time I would look at the news and see a little “R” next to a person name I would know that they are the “good guys”.…

Regime change highlights the negative, primal desires of the human conscious. Greed and apprehension are the driving factors behind today’s global instability. Economically, the US intervened in foreign land for the same reasons other global powers did throughout the course of human history. The target country has resources that the intervening country wants. Business interests and potential for profit were driving forces behind invasion.…

    Realism And The Cold War

Prominent in realist theory is the concept of anarchy. Anarchy in international politics is defined by Mearsheimer as a system of ‘independent political units (states) that have no central authority above them’ (Mearsheimer 1994). Such a system promotes the concepts of self-help, statism and survival which suggest that war is the result of independent states fighting for power and national interest in order to survive. Given that the world has only been at peace for 8% of all of recorded history (Hedges 2003), these concepts are of great significance to realist in order to dissect war and understand why it is so prominent in international politics. Therefore, the bases of this essay will be formed using the aforementioned concepts to outline…

However, the US missiles in Turkey could strike almost anyway in the USSR, this proved an issue to the Soviet Union whose missiles could only reach Europe and revealed the imbalance that the USSR were trying to level out. It concerned the Soviet Union that this would sway the US to pursue a first attack. It is clear that it was a combination of events that led to the Cuban Missile Crisis and not one single affair. However, it has been argued that it was the Bay of Pigs invasion that was the central event that led to a downward spiral to the crisis and although conflicting views in ideology and economic issues certainly played a part, the invasion arguably gave Khrushchev the excuse he needed to initiate a defence plan for Cuba. Without the invasion, Khrushchev could have been seen to have acted out of…

The United States and Cuba have suffered through an extremely long and difficult relationship over the past 55 years. The conflict arose due to many political and economic differences between the two countries, as well as the actions taken by Fidel Castro. The difficulties ultimately resulted in the United States placing an embargo on Cuba around 1960. Fortunately, these broken ties may be on the path to reconciliation, as President Obama and leader of Cuba, Raul Castro, are working to heal their diplomatic relations. The switch in power from Fidel Castro to Raul may have been the ultimate turning point for both countries.…
