The Cold War was harsh, but it's presidents was tougher even tho they carried caring hearts with them. The Cold War presidents, Truman and Eisenhower were more into the similar ideas of containment and the one option of nuclear war and nukes, while Kennedy was into the methods of appeasement and flexible response. The Cold War was the rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union(Ayers R93). The Cold War started after WWII and started because communism was on the move and was starting to spread. Truman’s economic aid helped the greek government, so that it’s country can solve their food, finance, and economically challenged problems(Truman T11-15). Truman did this to strengthen the greek government, but it’s country and the effort was to strengthen the Greek area so that the world get help in avoid the spreading problem of communism. Another way Truman helped the greek is by giving the greek military aid. Truman’s military aid helped the greek by giving them weapons and protection(Truman T11-15). The big purpose of this was to force out communism by force if needed, but it was also to strengthen the greek’s power and defence. Truman’s military use was used to stop communism and to protect and save the democrats way of living(Truman T30-31). Mostly in the Greek areas because americans believed if the european countries fell to communism then the United Nations would fall next. The democratic way of life would most likely die and that was one of the biggest fears in its time. Eisenhower’s containment plan was the belief that if communism takes over the middle east then all will fall to communism(Eisenhower E11-14). The middle east is a pretty powerful area and since egypt teamed up with the Soviet Union in became a target to fall into communism and as communism grows, the more powerful they get and that means they could challenge the United Nation and mostly win. During this time the Vietnam War was taking place and it cause Eisenhower's theory called Domino Theory and that was a feeling that if vietnam became communists other countries of the south west asia would also become communist(Ayers R96). Eisenhower also allowed Massive Retaliation and that is the United States willingness to allow use of nuclear force to settle political arguments(Ayers R104).Using nuclear as a threat scares the Soviet Union cause them to back off a bit and them come back with the same threat and if they actually used the nuclear weapons then the earth would become a nuclear wasteland and this would normally cause a state of Brinkmanship and this is a plan that includes countries getting to the peak of war without going to war(Ayers R92).
