Cold War Argumentative Essay

America has a long and varied history filled with times of prosperity but also times of misfortune. The history of America is comprised of a series of events that we have both learned from and have yet to learn from. So the question remains are we doomed to make the same mistake over and over again? For example, war is not a new idea for America. American’s have been fighting wars since Christopher Columbus arrived. The reason for the war may change but the concept of war has not. The Revolutionary War, War of 1812, WWI, WWII, Vietnam War, the Cold War and Gulf War are all part of our history of warfare. Wars are fought to gain something or fought to prevent the loss of something. Ideally as our civilization evolves, the threat of war will cease but human nature being what it is, that is unlikely to happen. One large problem in the past was the Great Depression. The Great Depression was a severe worldwide economic depression that took place in the 30’s. It all began with the stock market crash in October 1929. Many American’s lost everything in the crash and the economy suffered considerably. 1 in 5 Americans were unemployed during this time. The Cold War was a very geopolitically tense time for The U.S. and the Soviet Union. There was no actual fighting during this “war”, it was just a disagreement where we cut off all ties with the enemy. During the Cold War, many Americans worried about the uncertainty of U.S and Soviet Union relations and the threat of nuclear attack.
