Cold Sassy Tree
Cold Sassy Tree is a historical novel written by Olive Ann Burns, and published in 1984. It follows the life of a fourteen year old boy named Will Tweedy. This book explores themes such as death, religion, and social taboos. Cold Sassy Tree describes how E. Rucker Blakeslee announces that he is getting married to Love Simpson. It was shocking to his family, simply because his wife had recently died (three weeks ago). On the other hand, Rucker's grandson, Will Tweedy, did not mind his grandfather getting remarried. He believed Miss Love Simpson was a very nice and intelligent lady. He felt as if his grandfather needed someone to look after him, since his grandmother

What are some of these trials and what lessons does he learn through these experiences? Will was a very interesting character in Cold Sassy Tree. Will was a character who questioned the meaning of life and justness of God. Will ran into an incident where he almost lost his life. On the afternoon that Miss Love and Rucker announced that they were getting married, Will decides to go fishing in the country. As he was walking, he came across a high, narrow train trestle. Suddenly, he noticed a train heading in his direction full speed. He was too shock to move, so he ducked. He thought his life was over. …show more content…
Rucker family had basically thrown him under the bus after he made his announcement. He was only receiving support from his grandson, Will. Rucker's daughters were very disrespectful and showed hatred towards his new wife, but Rucker decided to let Miss Love know that he was deeply in love with her and no one could change his mind. When Camp committed suicide, Rucker honored his memory, but when Camp was alive, Rucker treated Camp very badly. Burns concludes that like all of life's other obstacles, families are a source of grief and anxiety, but they can also provide succor and foster
