With so many people diagnosed with diabetes, it is questionable how it remains in our genetics even with all of its deadly symptoms. It seems that diabetes actually provided an evolutionary advantage during the younger dryas. Around 12,000 years ago, there was a dramatic climate change that dropped the temperature drastically causing something like an ice age, however, it was abrupt lasting less than a decade, and is known as the younger dryas. During this time period, there was a steep drop in human population and it is a surprise that some were able to survive and adapt to such a rapid change of temperature. Of those that survived, it is only possible that they develop an essential characteristic for the cold, like cold diuresis. Cold diuresis
