Coke Coffee And Tea Can Stain Your Teeth Experiment

Improved Essays
Purpose/Rationale
The purpose of this experiment is to find out what liquid out of coke, coffee or tea will stain an eggshell the most. I chose to so this project because I think that it can help people who have problems with their teeth not being clean. They may find out why their teeth are staining so bad. Coke, coffee and tea can do a bunch of damage. But in this experiment I wanted to know the exact percentage of staining that they may cause. I think that learning how much a everyday drink could actually stain your teeth.

It gives information on what your teeth are made up of and how certain things can break down the supportive covering on your teeth. With this breakdown, it allows some liquids to pass through the covering and damage your teeth. Over time, your teeth get softer and allow more outside damage to occur. This is the same with drinking certain beverages. The more you drink them, the more damage to your teeth there will be.
Stain
Encyclopedia. (1995). Menlo Park, CA: Sunset Pub. Corp.
The encyclopedia gives info about what kind of things will stain. The stain penetrates through things to give it color, similar to how certain beverages stain our teeth. The more you put on, the darker the object will be. The more coke, tea, or coffee you drink, the more stained your teeth will get. You can wipe off excess stain to lighten it, just like you can brush your teeth to help prevent the dicoloring of your teeth.
About My Project
Teeth are structures in the mouth with grooves intended to help break down food for consumption. Teeth are naturally white or off-white in color, but build up from foods and drinks, such as coffee and tea, over time can stain the white color and turn teeth yellowish and discolored. In this experiment, I’ll use eggshells in order to explore how teeth are stained by drinking coffee, tea, and

In this experiment I attempted to created and study the affects of a egg in a hypertonic and hypotonic solution. To conduct this experiment I used the following materials: cups, eggs, vinegar, corn syrup, spoons and food coloring. To begin the experiment I placed three eggs in vinegar to dissolve their shells, leaving behind a thin membrane that allowed water to pass in and out of the eggs. The water molecules enter inside the eggs and the eggs begins to swell. Once the eggs have sat in the vinegar for two days I removed one from the vinegar, washed the eggs and placed it in the corn syrup.…

The amount poured was just enough to cover the surface of each egg. Maple syrup was poured into one cup containing an egg. Tap water was poured into the second cup, containing the second egg. Saltwater, made by combining an unspecified amount of table salt and tap water, was poured into the third cup, which contained the third egg. 33 Minutes after being submerged in maple syrup, observations regarding egg B(the egg submerged in maple syrup), were recorded.…

After soaking the egg in vinegar for a day to remove the shell and not the membrane, I placed the egg in Karo corn syrup because it has a high concentration of dissolved sugar. Although the sugar molecules were too large to pass through the semipermeable membrane of the egg, water molecules were able to exit the egg. After twenty-four hours, the egg had decreased from a mass of 84.1 grams to 47.0 grams due to osmosis. The corn syrup is hypertonic in comparison to the egg and thus the water moved from a high concentration of water in the egg to a lower concentration of water in the syrup in order to reach equilibrium. Subsequently, the corn syrup was diluted in water in order to have an equal concentration of water in the syrup and in the egg itself.…

EGG LAB ANALYSIS Bouncy egg trick: You turn an egg into a bouncy ball by leaving the egg in vinegar. on the first day we place the egg into vinegar which helps break down the eggshell. Vinegar is a acid which dissolves the eggshell, which is made of calcium carbonate, turning the shell to carbon dioxide. Once the egg was decalcified, it felt very fragile and bouncy. When the egg didn’t have a shell anymore, it was kept from seeping out by the “plasma membrane” (egg white), which was congealed by the soaking in vinegar. When the nucleus of the egg became visible, it looked very cloudy. The substance that entered/left the egg in each situation was water, due to the state of the egg, by way of osmosis, in a way of trying to balance the inside and outside the “cell” (egg), this balance is essential to functioning at the preferred isotonic state. This lab could be improved by using 2 different eggs, as the data seemed inaccurate when placing a hypotonic egg into a solution of corn syrup made the egg hypertonic, because there wasn’t a proper start weight in the egg when placed in the second solution.…

We put a penny in each cup and put the substances on the pennies to see what would happen. Vinegar made the penny almost spotless and salt and vinegar made the penny clean and also a slight crystallization. The hydrogen peroxide made the water green and crystallizes a little bit. The salt couldn’t clean the penny by itself because it probably needed a liquid for it to work.…

Before letting the egg submerge in vinegar overnight the initial weight of the egg was 66.6 grams. We thought that after leaving the egg in vinegar the shell of the egg would get softer. The independent variable is the vinegar and the dependent variable is the egg. We believed that the egg would be softer; because we saw the vinegar bubble once we put the egg in it.…
