College students have their own ideas about physical, cognitive and social emotional domains. In an article found in Psychology and Behavioral Science Collection, Over one hundred and fifty students responded to open ended questions and the majority articulated multidimensional explanations for lifespan development. The multifaceted beliefs were associated with previous instruction, and even experience child rearing. Part of the students believed that children around the world go through similar changes. While some think developmental sequences among individual children and their unique experiences have more impact on cognitive and social domains (McDevitt, Jobes, Cochran, Sheehan, 2010).

For example, when I was in high school around the age of 17 my two friends said they wanted to stay the night at my house one Friday. I agreed and was really excited about it, because they had not stayed the night with me in a few years. I was also a little puzzled on what made them decide to stay the night, but I soon found out why. My two friends had been planning on sneaking out of my house to go to this pool party in the park close to my house where they both worked as lifeguards. The party was at midnight, and the pool was closed at that time, so they were going to have to break in. I knew this was a bad idea right away, and also was extremely disappointed on what they were doing. This hurt me because I soon realized they were just using me. They invited me to go, and I said no. They eventually decided they were not going, and was just going to leave my house and go back home. I showed cognitive domain in this situation (McDevitt etal., …show more content…
Eight stages of development that Erikson’s spoke of, of which three occur, post adolescence that can be non-sequential. In contrast to Maslow who taught five steps that come in sequence. As life goes on many other physical changes happen that does not really have anything to do with social or cognitive ability. There are some domains that over lap, for example, when I became a young adult several things happened to me that could be categorized under the physical domain. I started college when I was 18 years old; this held responsibilities of its own. For example, I had to obtain at least eight hours of community service each semester in order to keep my Tennessee promise. Also after entering my young adult years, I opened my own bank account. This taught me the responsibly of managing my own money. I also pick up a part time job, to start saving up money and paying for my own things. With these things happening to me as I entered early adult hood I showed physical domain, because this all occurred when I reached a certain age (Feldman, 2015).
Conclusion
Physical, Cognitive and Social domains each have their own role in every stage of lifespan development in both Erikson’s and Maslow’s stages. The whole debate of nature vs. nurture will continue to be argued through the ages. With that being said multidimensional explanations
