Emotions consist in three components:
Physiological changes (arousal of the nervous/endocrine system that is involuntary)
Subjective feelings
This leading to an interaction between the physiological and cognitive factor producing and
Associated behaviour.
Nevertheless, the physiological factors are generally involuntary processes made by the body. While the cognitive factors may be conscious or unconscious processes of reaction.
According to the Two Factor Theory, emotion is the product of the interrelation between physiology and cognition, the physical arousal and the cognitive label given to the arousal. This means that the brain is required to identify the arousal in order to react to it and produce the emotion. On 1962, Schachter and Singer decided to prove this theory using the adrenaline hormone. The seleceted 184 male college students and where divided into four different groups. They were given an injection that was obviously adrenaline, but they were told that it was Suproxin to …show more content…
Appraisals are evalutions made by the person in order to see how the situation will affect the individual’s well-being. This theory states that emotion is produced depending on the environment the individual is in, depending on the surrounding whether it’s harmful or favorable. Lazarus distinguished two different appraisals. The first appraisal is the personal relevance, and the second appraisal is the evaluation of the situation in order to act. For the second appraisal there are two different strategies that people often use to decrease the stress situation, problem-focused cooping (aim to change the situation) and emotion.focused coping (handle the emotion instead of changing the situation). On 1964, Speisman et. al made an experiment where the participant’s appraisal on a situation was manipulated and evaluated the emotional response the person had towards the appraisal. They showed a group of participants a stress situation film, however they manipulated the soundtracks to create the experimental
