When I was two and a half weeks away from my 3rd birthday my dad passed away. My memory of him is phenomenal considering I was only two and a half weeks away from being 3. The only thing that was life changing is that my dad changed jobs from working in Iowa city and being gone all the time, to switching jobs in Clarence so I’d see him more. When I was littler, me and my brothers would get up super early Christmas morning so that we could hopefully open all the presents that were underneath the tree. We would separate the presents and try to figure out what was inside each one, while we waited for our parents to get up.…

While I found our discussions of Buddhism interesting, part of the discussion I was looking forward to the most was talking to him about his experiences of traveling to America from Sri Lanka. I am also an immigrant from Sri Lanka and I moved here around 9 years ago. During our talk I wanted to see how our experiences in moving to America differed. Also I felt that during this part of the interview it was easier for me to relate to VG and to come up with questions. Before asking about America I wanted to know more about his childhood and why VG decided to move here.…

At times I wonder what life would be like if there was a soundtrack playing in the background. The soundtrack would continue to play capturing every moment in life, although having a soundtrack playing in the background of my life is an impossible idea, there are still those certain songs that seem to sing in my head for every moment I have experienced in my life. I am frequently at a loss of words, but when I hear the right melody, everything falls in place it connects me with memories, places, people, and experiences. I have hundreds of songs that I listen to, but I want to focus on three that have a significant meaning to my life they are How Big are Angel Wings by Ashton Shepherd, True Friend by Miley Cyrus and How Can I Help You Say Goodbye…

A flashbulb memory is a detailed and graphic memory that is based on a true life event and lasts for a lifetime. Usually, such memories are the result of important historical or autobiographical incidents. One memory that will never fade from my mind was when my mom gave birth to a set of twins, a girl and a boy, on the morning of June 26, 2000. At that time, I was only 5 years old and our family was living in an apartment in Memphis, Tennessee. A terrible storm had broken through a few days before causing a power outage in the entire neighborhood.…
