Lexington Medical Center (LMC) Urgent Care in Irmo, is one of the physician practices under the Physician Network Services. For physician services at LMC-Urgent Care, continuing education is for the nurse practitioners, physicians, and other staff that uses Misys. Misys is a financial software that is used in the revenue department in Urgent Care. The Coding Compliance Educator (CCE) at Lexington Medical Center-Physician Network Services (PNS) provides the auditing, training of codes, updates MAC regulations and more. The Coding Compliance Educator is a Certified Professional Coder. The educators send out coding and documentation education every Tuesday through email. Every six months educational guidelines for providers are developed.
New providers joining the LMC Physician practices will be provided with a basic education on Evaluation and Management services. The initial education begins within thirty days of boarding LMC Physician Network. The topics are usually education specific to specialty, e/m overview slides, and coding educator contact information. The CCE will also provide e/m pocket reference materials specified to the physician practice. Below is the process of how the coding education is performed by Internal PNS
Process:
1. The PNS finance department emails a New Provider List to the coding educators at monthly.
2. Coding Educator emails, the manager of outpatient facilities to schedule initial education usually is an one-hour session.
3. Coding Educator delivers initial education to Provider and Practice Manager (within the first 30 days).
4. At 90 days, Coder Educator prepares for the Initial Chart Review.
a. Runs Practice Management software (Cognos) for new provider
b. Selects ten encounters
c. Manually records encounter information from
