All business can benefit in having a code of ethics in which it serves as guidelines for making right decisions. Food establishments such as fast food face a distinct range of ethical challenges tied to the treatment of minimum-wage employees and food costs and quality. On December 2015, Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurants have been linked to two separate outbreaks concerning E.coli infections in several states. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) together with the Centers for Disease and Prevention (CDC) and local officials are investigating the first five infected people in three different states and the latter which happen on January 2016 in 11 states. The food safety and standards must be applied anywhere. There must be no exceptions and hindrance in applying the rules and regulations when negotiating about the products that the customers expect. The quality of the food must be maintained in every fresh produce and meat products. Thus, these are applied to every culture and national boundaries there is to offer. In this issue, there are reasons why the company committed such a scene in which people are affected. With the products exported to different countries, the trust between the two companies are concrete. Thus, they don’t have to exert additional effort in producing and distributing its products. The beef from Chipotle came from Australia because it couldn’t find enough domestically raised grass-fed to meet an increased demand. Through this, their awareness to its cleanliness has no doubt. They didn’t thoroughly check for any contamination related to raw beef before delivering to other restaurants. Another factor is that the staff is not fully trained to avoid food contamination in which the raw products must be separated to fresh produce. Without this responsiveness, the bacteria that are found in the meat may transfer to the produce which results to foodborne illnesses. Through the issue of food poisoning, the owners and the CEO of Chipotle suffered a massive decrease. The compensation from co-CEOs Steve Ells and Monty Moran came down from $29 million (2014) to $ 13.387 million and from $28.153 million to $13.561 million. Their shares are also 40 percent below pre-crisis peaks. Through this, the employers also suffer because of the mandatory closing of branches due to its issue and sales loss. They also have privileged to undergo a paid rest day for them to avoid the said virus. The customers have the greatest impact due to its dangerous effects. On the first outbreak, there are 5 people affected in 3 states while in the second and larger outbreak, 55 people are affected in 11 states. The suppliers are also greatly affected due to the allegations that the source of this contamination is from the Australian beef and fresh produce.
