Standard code of conduct for all professionals usually include a strict policy in which all parties must comply to in order to secure the safety of patients seeking information on web based sites. Information on websites pertaining to the American Medical Association (AMA), American Psychological Association (APA) and the American Nursing Association (ANA) all share a common bond in terms of privacy acts and general medical standards. It is important to always remember what code of conduct means specifically for each organization. A code of conduct is a set of rules outlining the social norms and rules and responsibilities of, or proper practices for, an individual, party or organization. Related concepts include ethical, honor, moral codes and religious laws.
The American Psychological Association 's (APA) Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (hereinafter referred to as the Ethics Code) consists of an Introduction, a Preamble, five General Principles and specific Ethical Standards. The Introduction discusses the intent, organization, procedural considerations and scope of application of the Ethics Code. The Preamble and General Principles are aspirational goals to guide psychologists toward the highest ideals of psychology. Although the Preamble and General Principles are not themselves enforceable rules, they should be considered by psychologists in arriving at an ethical course of action.
