Coco Chanel: Most influential women’s fashion designer The designs created by Coco Chanel have had the greatest impact on women’s fashion. Her designs are classic, timeless, and still very popular today. All of her accomplishments were because of her hard work, dedication, and being her own person. Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel was born on August 19, 1883 in Saumur, France. A week after her mother’s passing, her father, Albert Chanel, who was a street peddler, abandoned Chanel along with her brothers and sisters. For example, during that time period, men had dominated the fashion world, especially Christian Dior. Chanel feared her career as a designer was over, but she did not give up. Although it took her nearly three years to get back on top, it was worth it. During the 50’s and 60’s her designs had become extremely popular in the United States. Famous Hollywood stars, such as Audrey Hepburn and Liz Taylor wore Chanel’s designs. In the movie, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Audrey Hepburn wore Chanel’s ‘little black dress’. She added perfume, jewelry, handbags, shoes, and sunglasses to her famous Chanel collection. Everything she designed was very well-liked, but two of her most well known Chanel creations are still popular today. People who do not really know much about fashion have heard of Chanel’s little black dress and her famous perfume, Chanel No.5. During Chanel’s time period, black dresses were only worn to events such as funerals. Chanel believed that she could turn a simple, plain, black dress into something very stylish, and she was right. Her second most famous Chanel creation was her perfume, Chanel No.5; which was created in 1920. Her perfume was the first perfume to ever feature a designer’s name. This perfume is still one of the most famous perfumes throughout the world
