Living Legend? The first time I heard Kanye West rap was with his album 808’s and Heartbreaks. The first song I remember listening to was ‘Heartless’ by Kanye West. I was just a young boy, about 10 years old or so and I was relatively new to the to the music world and did not know much. I only really knew about the young pop stars that teenagers were all crazy about and the older music that my dad always listened to. But people at first told me not to listen to Kanye West because of his music being vulgar for young kids my age. But I never stopped playing that album or stopped listening to Kanye West. And it helped me learn more about music and it helped paved the way for future music. I absolutely believe that Kanye West is the greatest artist

Patrick Ryan states that ‘What sets West apart is his ability to reinvent himself on each of his six solo albums…’ Kanye West’s first album which was The College Dropout in which on that album Kanye West uses “vintage soul samples and relatable lyrics” (Ryan) to pander to a wider field of listeners. Then he follows up the album The College Dropout with his album titled Graduation Day where Kanye West draws from his own experiences including when he left college to pursue a career in music. Even his album Through The Wire plays on the time when he was recovering from a near-fatal car accident. He was the kid who went to school, his mom was a college professor. He definitely challenged some of the authenticity that had to be there at the moment.” In which Kanye West shaped the way rap and hip hop was, where Kanye West made it “cool” to have a ‘soft’ history and dress nice. Kanye West is known for his polos he used to wear when he was still exploding onto the scene, and that preppy fashion look Kanye West had helped expand what is considered manly, or cool enough to work. Later in his career Kanye West released albums such as Late Registration and Graduation in which holds many of the songs Kanye West is known for such as Gold Digger, Good Life, and Stronger. But most importantly those two albums combined to earn Kanye West 6 Grammy Awards. And that is when Kanye West was really brought to the spotlight of the rap
