What I truly enjoy is identifying a position that I can fill, and catering to the needs of my community by using the skills I have to help others. Knowing that I have made a difference to someone gives me a great sense of satisfaction, and provides me with a foundation to step into other roles that allow me to serve. Serving as an officer in the Coast Guard would allow me the opportunity to continue my love of service by helping others and advancing the Coast Guard’s mission of protecting the citizens of the United States.

As a Cadet at the Coast Guard Academy, I hope to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to become a successful leader in the Coast Guard.

Becoming a certified boat coxswain is the goal and responsibility of all third class boatswains’ mates. I would like the Coast Guard to establish a cohesive plan to train, and fund education to generate qualified BM3 coxswains in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. Once they graduate A-school there is no solid plan or funding to ensure the reserve member’s training stays on schedule and completes their training within the required time frame. The process for a Reserve BM3 to become a coxswain is a long and difficult journey.…

I have a strong desire to become an officer in the United States Navy. To achieve this goal I wish to be accepted into Officer Candidate School where I will later graduate with a commission as an Ensign. I believe myself to be of both strong mind and body, and I accredit this to my commitment to my school, my work, and my training. I graduated top ten percent of my class in High School and Magna Cum Laude in college and I continually try to increase the diversity of my knowledge so to become a better rounded person. I majored in Criminology and Criminal Justice and minored in Psychology, so through convention teaching methods I have gained a firm grip in the Social Sciences; however, its through my work experience that I have really grown.…

During my life I’ve seen notable examples of leadership, scholarship, service, citizenship, and character in this world and they’ve influenced me as a person and through NJHS I can make each of these pillars more of a part of my life. Leadership, to me, is being someone anyone can look up to. You don’t have to be the strongest, or the smartest, or any of those.…

The U.S Coast Guard is one of the fifth branches of the United States Military, and most people haven't a clue what they do. A couple of years ago, if someone would have asked me ‘what is the Coast Guard and what do they do’, I too would have no idea what to answer. Over the past few years, there is a family that I have grown very close with and the Coast Guard has played a huge part in their lives. The father was in the Coast Guard for 29 years and retired as a captain. Over those 29 years, the family moved about every 3 years all over the country.…

I chose the job of a marine officer/ patrol officer of Keego Harbor, MI since I enjoy the water and boating, and planning to have a career in the law enforcement field. A marine officer, would patrol the bodies of water, mostly the larger ones, and, in many cases, would consist of switching from marine to patrol officer, depending on the weather and the season. The requirements of the position would be very similar to that of a patrol officer, but slightly different, and, in a way, more advanced, (i.e. marine officers should be better swimmers, more experienced than the average patrol officer due to the different tactics used), and so most people who want this position should plan farther into the future, and train with more advanced tactics.…
