Coaching Personal Statement

After playing soccer for nearly my whole life and eventually playing competitively in high school, I have grown a passion for the sport. This is why I decided that I would take up coaching as a way to gain some experience in the world of sport management. Luckily, friend of mine asked me to help him as an assistant coach for the under-12 soccer team he was coaching in the Ormond Beach Soccer Club recreational department. I saw this is a great opportunity to gain some experience in coaching and see how the sport is played through the coach’s eyes rather than being the player or just merely a fan of the game. Although I am not a sport management major, having experience in coaching can be beneficial for any career, especially sport management. It shows leadership and the ability to take a group of athletes under your wing and lead them into cooperating as an efficient team. Employers love these qualities and it show that you will be able to work well with people. Experience in coaching at a low level can help you get a job coaching at a higher level or an athletic director position because coaching is a part of those jobs, but coaching experience also helps with customer service positions. Working sales or public relations requires employees to have an ability to cooperate well with others and deal with people of many different backgrounds, which is what I experienced when dealing with the different kids on my team. Many conflicts can also arise in sport management, so employees may need to act as disturbance handlers at times and resolve conflicts. In my experience coaching these kids, I learned that conflicts arise many times and I was able to deteriorate these conflicts with the help of my fellow coach. With the experience of coaching and the knowledge gained from this experience, I am now able to use it to my advantage in the future when I am pursuing my
