Coach Rocker was dealing with a lot of challenges for the first time in his life by falling

short of expectations. From reading this chapter, the players for Coach Rocker’s team have lost

their motivation to win, their love for their teammates, and their passion to play. Coach

Rocker’s motivational methods, which have always worked in the past, are now failing. Coach

Rocker struggles with the pressures of trying to maintain a winning record and a healthy family

life. With the lack of motivation from the players for Coach Rocker they forgot how to compete

at a high level mentally and physically. I feel that the players didn’t respond to losing them

games in a learning manner with competition.

The latest in a series of defining off-seasons is now upon us as general manger Garth Snow gets another chance to remake the Islanders roster into one that fans hope will take another step up the ladder to the upper floors. For years, New York had resided near the bottom floor of the league’s 30 member teams, torn apart by horrible management decisions and even worse player personnel moves. Lately, fortunes have turned, with playoff appearances in three of the last four seasons, and following two first round defeats, an advancement into the second round this year, bowing out to Tampa in five games. In that time period, most fans, especially those of the younger generation, have seen more out of this organization than in, arguably, the past 20 years.…

The New York Islanders returned home early Friday morning from a physical - and some would say lucky - 4-3 overtime win in Winnipeg just hours earlier. They had just finished a brutal road trip through three time zones across Canada and despite a 5-1 record to that point on the trip, had clearly not played their best. Not to mention, Nick Leddy, Matt Martin and, as we would learn Saturday, Calvin de Haan, would all be banged up to varying degrees. Martin and Leddy would be well enough to return to practice on Saturday in preparation for a huge ‘four-point swing’ game against the rival New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden, an arena that, unbelievably, the Islanders had yet to visit this season but don’t mind at all. “It’s one of those games, almost like a home game when you come back.…
