While there was an age difference and an experience difference, both teachers interviewed approached teaching the nontraditional way. Also, they both never planned to become teachers. Neither Mr. Poag nor Ms. Duffel graduated college with a teaching degree. Mr. Poag finished his bachelor program with a degree in science and Ms. Duffel completed hers with a degree in communications. However, after a short time, they both decided to pursue teaching. Both teachers also found their way to Rivercrest High School as a start in their careers, each obtaining a job in the 7th through 8th grade age range, and both are still currently teaching there.
However, even though the start to their career was very similar the way the decided to become teachers was completely different. Ms. Duffel previously had many family members in the education field and at the same time discovered her interest in teaching when helping as an interpreter,

In Miss Duffel's response, she attributes her most favorite thing about teaching as she is still gradually learning, too. However, Coach Poag over the 35 years he has been teaching acknowledges how much change takes place in the classroom. Coach Poag’s statement could not be any more accurate. The education field is always changing and evolving to include newer concepts and technology into the course requirements.
Coach Poag also noted in one of his responses that while technology has done quite a bit of good for classrooms it has also made teaching more difficult. Stating that the use of technology has made it more difficult to keep the student's attention and keep them engaged in the lesson. This is a very accurate statement because, with easier access to entertainment now, students become often disengaged from learning.
