Coach Ken Carter was a basketball player turned basketball coach who decided to take a job at Richmond, Ca. as the head basketball coach. When Mr. Carter acquired the job he was there to just teach basketball and when games. In the process of this he changed his players lives; he also instilled life-values in each of his players. Lessons like respect, teamwork,and that education is vitale these lessons took these players farther than they had ever imagined not them themselves but also farther than the whole community believed they would go. While at Richmond High school Coach Carter instilled respect into each of his players. On the first day of practice he called all of his students “sir” as a sign of respect he also asked them to call him “sir”. He also said how the “n” word was a derogatory term that was a sign of disrespect. The coach also achieved this by making them wear tie and jacket on gameday this instilled self respect. In summary, he changed the way treated themselves and others by teaching them respect.

At the first practice he said “ I saw none of you had trouble shooting the ball all of you had trouble passing it.” By the end of the movie the players had passed the ball more than they had in the first game. The players also learned teamwork when Timo Cruz wanted to join the team once again and he had to tackle an impossible feat and when he did not achieve his goal the team worked together to finish his feat. They also show they had learned teamwork when Junior Battle need help with his grades and studying and on or the other player offered to help him. In conclusion the team learned teamwork which brought the players together not only on the court but also in their everyday
