He would put me to practice with the more experienced, upperclassman, which forced me to work harder in order to be able to compete with them as a freshman. He stayed late after practice to personally work with me on my hurdle form, good technique, starts, and speed. Overall, at the end of track season, Coach Carter helped me drop a total of 5.49 seconds from my original time. At my first track meet, I remember being overly nervous for my 300mH. I wanted to prove to Coach Carter that I was working hard and that his coaching was paying off. But, about three-fourths of the way done with my 300s, my trailing leg hit the hurdle while running over it, causing me to tumble onto the ground with a roll. In extreme pain and cuts all over I immediately looked back onto Coach Carter for advice, who was signaling for me to get up and continue. At some point in time in their development, most people encounter an adult figure, who instills a positive change in their lives. For me, that person was Cindy Scannella--my track and my cross country coach for my first two years of high school. This passion of mine as well as her continual support has carried me through the difficulties of my grandfather’s death, my parents’ divorce, and other strenuous circumstances including the end of her time as my coach. Her presence in my life has truly altered my life for the better.…

After careful thinking and talking with his wife, he takes up the job in order to try to help the underprivileged individuals in the neighborhood improve themselves. His main goal was to lead and motivate his student-athletes on the basketball team. From the minute he takes over the team, he gives the athletes a contract that they can sign if they wish to play for the team, which only allows them to participate in games if they attend every class and maintain a C average. Another statement included in the contract is that they are to wear a suit and tie on game days and respect not just their teammates but the coaches…
