When Rutgers was looking for a new coach, one of the many things they needed from a new coach was to keep the New Jersey talent in New Jersey at Rutgers. So far in the 2017 recruiting class, Coach Ash has rallied in four of the top six recruits in New Jersey, plus fourteen out of the twenty commits are from New Jersey. Not only has Coach Ash completed that task, he has exceeded it. It also helps that back in 2014 when Chris Ash was the defensive coordinator at Ohio State, they won the National Championship. So when ever a recruit comes into Coach Ash’s office, he can tell them, “With the talent you have, I can coach you and this team to become national champions.” This success has propelled Rutgers into the top 25 best recruiting class in the country and number six in the Big Ten Conference, which has fourteen teams in it (Please do not ask why it is not called the Big Fourteen). Now the normal person would say “You cannot just recruit the state of New Jersey and call yourself successful.” Correct, but Coach Ash has not just recruited just the state of New Jersey, but has explored many states, preferably the mid-Atlantic. Coach Ash has hauled in some of the top players in New York and Connecticut plus he brought in the number one ranked defensive player from the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia). It is pretty clear Coach Ash is getting it done on and off the field, but now he has to win games and secure his seat at Rutgers for many more
