Throughout the previous years, researchers and practitioners progressively have become aware of the connection between substance abuse and mental disorders. Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) has realized that treatment areas required an outline of diagnostic criteria, assessment, psychopharmacology and substance abuse treatment for individuals with coexisting Mental Illness and Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse. This stemmed from co-occurring substance use and mental disorders that had commonalities which formed multiple problems, and the effect they have on treatment and its aftermath. In both Mental Health system and the Addiction Treatment system both suggest that there is no one single mental health system nor there is no one single Addiction Treatment System. Somewhat, there is an assembly of services like: health, social, medical, treatment, maintenance programs, 12 steps etc.

Both Mental Health system and Addiction Treatment System is offered by diverse assembly of practitioners, counselors, etc. Fortunately, there is a variety of diverse experiences and expertise along with diverse providers. In both Mental Health system and Addiction Treatment System there is a private and public locations.
Mental Health and Substance Abuse systems both provide treatment services through a network of national programs. Mental Health and Substance Abuse both honor the goal of maintaining a practice of empathetic, ethical codes that is for the betterment of the client. Statistics suggest that treatment is an asset and helps lower suicidal issues in both Mental Health and Substance Abuse. One similarity is that they both affect the brain and the reward system that eventually leads the client into a treatment program (SAMHSA 2005).
Differences: Substance abuse systems and mental health
