Co-Facilitated Session Plan

Co-facilitated session plan
For the purpose of this assignment, I propose to approach the hypothetical planning of a co-facilitated session with another party in three stages; pre-session, during the session and post- session.
Pre-session
I would consider the pre-session planning of a co-facilitated session with another party to be an imperative part of the process. As we would both need to work collaboratively throughout the process to help the group achieve goals, the main objective would be for us to meet well in advance of the meeting in order to get to know each other and establish a trusting and respectful relationship, whereby we would welcome constructive feedback and have the ability to work through any differences which may arise.

Whoever was not presenting at the time, would sit quietly and observe and focus on what the other was saying and continue to make eye contact as a means of communication, validation and support, but this must be done in a way that did not distract members of the group. It would be agreed that under no circumstances should the person not presenting, leave the room. We will have also agreed, prior to the meeting, if there are items we do not have time to present, due to time constraints, one of us will communicate our availability during the break or after the meeting to the group (www.facilitatoru.com, 2017).

Post Session
Following the meeting, we will conduct a collaborative debrief and listen carefully and respectfully to one another’s evaluation before giving feedback. We will discuss what we feel went well and what we feel we may have done differently. It is important that we both provide honest feedback and highlight any particular behaviours which we found difficult or annoying such as being interrupted by the other. This evaluation time will help improve our communication moving forward should we participate in further co-facilitated sessions (www.facilitatoru.com,

It usually goes well when a very clear instruction is given to each person. I like to have the event well planned, detailing what each person will be doing, with whom and what is expected of them. I give a copy to each person or group and usually give a time schedule so they will achieve the desired outcome as per the plan. Occasionally things have gone wrong and it can be attributed to those who fail to follow the clear instructions. I always ask now for everyone to read the paperwork and plan and to ask questions if there is anything which they don't understand.…

First, what worked well was how our group integrated our individual skills together to complete the project. When we introduced ourselves and what our concentrations were, it was easy to determine what roles and responsibilities we would take on. We worked individually on our tasks before meeting together and integrating everything into the final product. The problems that arose primarily concerned communication and scheduling group meetings.…

On November 9th, Erin and I co-facilitated a group discussion around trauma-informed practice as part of our Group Facilitation assignment as second-year nursing students. The process consisted of choosing a peer-reviewed article related to trauma-informed practice, then creating a Facilitation Plan around the article and relevant course theory, and finally facilitating a group discussion. As the next step towards the development of our group facilitation skills, we were assigned to write a critical reflection about the experience of facilitating a group discussion. Through this paper I provided a summary of our group facilitation experience, explored group dynamics, what I perceived as our strengths and challenges, what I have learned from…
