Reflection Paper On Multicultural Culture

The very first assumption about new culture in my mind was that it takes years to adapt new culture and difficult to understand culture, to learn appropriate ways of behaving, a Diverse Learning Environment and communicating in Canadian culture in general. But that was not true for long time. When I came to Canada and started my college, all tutors and other faculty members play a very important role in helping us to acquire this knowledge very easily and in few months. The basic understanding of complexities of multiculturalism in Canada is only possible through thorough class teachings. Multicultural education enables me to learn the complexities of multiculturalism in Canada. It was a good and easy experience for me as my school teachers help us using a critical strategy. This strategy is that educators must try to step outside of their cultural comfort zone and comprehend the nature and origin of cultural differences. It is very important to realize the beliefs and values of other person to make aware him/her of anything new. This gives an insight to educators that how much time they will take and level of interest can be measured easily. It is easy to understand how the complexity of the multicultural environment within schools creates challenges and requires change. They should build upon students’ different perceptions and knowledge, and develop a contextualized teaching approach. Teaching to an international classroom is not a homogenization process and culturally responsive teachers should supplement international textbooks with local case studies while promoting multicultural approaches. In terms of current practice, it seems that a few students struggled with participating in class and with mixing with other cultural groups. They have probably faced diverse barriers.
