Have you ever worried about absolute and total destruction of the human race by space war? No? Well you should. Currently the United States has in effect a bill that bans cooperation between NASA and the CNSA (Chinese National Space Association). It is the legacy of a conservative lawmaker by the name of Frank Wolf (Fernholz 15). His bill cuts off any funding for work with China, recently the CNSA requested help from NASA for a new joint space station, however due this bill known as the Wolf amendment NASA has no choice but to decline. NASA declination to China is only part of the problem brought about by the Wolf Amendment. Stopping the inevitable space war itself is enough to justify the discontinuance of the Wolf Amendment. According to an article on nationalinterest.org the consequences are equal to that of nuke war, this alone should show how important this issue should be to the United States. Not only are the repercussions of space war on levels equaling that of nuclear the issue of space debris crashing into satellites could start a space war and a nuclear war. Many satellites are used as warning devices for nuclear missiles and would be the logical first strike against the United States to engage in nuclear war, the accidental destruction of one of these satellites could trigger nuclear war alongside the space war. The combination of two nuclear scale events would have massive impacts on the entire planet and threaten the existence of humanity on this planet. The consequences of nuclear war hardly need to be explained, imagine the aftermath of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on a global scale, now double that. That’s the kind of problem that will be solved by simply allowing cooperation with China. Not only will cooperation help prevent extinction, the current lack of cooperation negatively affects quality of life on the planet. It has been empirically proven that cooperation in space spills into other sciences, these other sciences could be medical fields that would improve human living standards. Space cooperation would affect human life in every way. Not only will space cooperation benefit human life but it is also detrimental to entire continued of existence of human life.
