My Dengue

Superior Essays
After my personal hygiene, I rushed up upstair for breakfast before leaving for my writing class starts at 8:00 am. I ate a small disk of sweet sour pork with a bowl of rice that my mom prepared the night before. My life could have been full of depressed without my mom; she has the answers to everything, like where to find my brand new pair of puma shoes, the TV remote, or even how to cure my hiccups, etc.. When I was young, I was stubborn and a sly kid. I would execute my mom’s requests under her presence, but I 'd rather find a way to get away with it when she was not there. After my severe dengue, I began to obey my mother more. I got dengue because of my stubborn and disobey to my mother. Dengue fever broke out in Vietnam during 2007. …show more content…
People with dengue disease often have a fever, with aching throat, and pain all over their body. When I woke up that morning, I could feel the hot heat run within my body. I rushed to throw my blanket away, and I was shaking within two seconds because it’s too cold for some reason. My throat was aching and dry like I haven’t drunk water since forever. I knew something odd happening here, so I loudly called my mom for help. She made me a small cup of lemonade, which could lower my fever and febrifuge my body temperature. I stayed home and ate pho while my mom was going out to buy me some medications from our local pharmacy. I wondered at the time if I had a dengue, and I couldn’t hang out with my friends since it was summer. My head filled up with those thoughts while my mom was walking to the house. She prepared the meds as instructions then gave it to me with a small cup of warm water. I thought I would get better after two to three days of taking the meds, but I was wrong. The fifth day, after my first fever, I could barely move in that morning. My legs got smaller and I couldn’ walk at all. My mom began to freak out as she ordered a cab to get me to the hospital. I had never since her like this before. Her eyes were red and filled with tears. I could easily notice that she was trying not to cry in front of me. Maybe, she already did once or more before she rushed to carry me into the cab as it parked in front of my …show more content…
After my severe dengue, I began to listen to my mother more often. I would execute all of her requests, and I would do it justice. I began to do all the house chores that I supposed to do before my severe dengue-like sweeping and mopping the house floor, clean the dishes and etc.. I started to come home right away after school and help my mom with our small restaurant. I began to go to church more often during the weekday as she asked me to. I took everything she taught me for granted and respected every single one of them. I believed that everything my mom did for me was because of my own advantages. It is, thus, I always listen to her and ask her for the opinion on most things in

My childhood in New York City was very difficult for me. I grow up in a predominantly Hispanic Dominican decent neighborhood in the upper Manhattan area called Washington Heights. Washington Heights in the early 1990’s was the heart of the drug trade. At one point in the 1990’s it was considered one of the worst neighborhoods to raise a child. I remember in the news, the news anchor reported that New York City was recognized as the crime capital in the 1950's through the early 1990's.…

Seven sad faces full with tears and no hope sit around a kitchen table. I stare blankly in my dad's eyes as he says, “Your mother is very sick, she's in the hospital with a rare neurological disease called Guillain-Barre.” My initial reaction was really nothing, I didn't know what to say or do in such a tragic situation. My heart hurt but my mind felt empty. Being only 12 years old at the time it was hard to understand the situation.…

“If you don’t go the hospital you are going to die,” my mom screamed at me in September of my freshman year of high school in an attempt to get me to go to the hospital. I had slept and violently shook the entire ride home from school while riding in my mom’s car. My sleeping and constant shaking, as well as my burning forehead, convinced my mom that I had a high fever. I looked at her and then said, “Okay, if you think I am going to die, I’ll go.” My mom backed the car up in our driveway, and she turned the car around.…

The next morning, I saw the newspaper while I was eating breakfast. On the front page, there was a story about a young boy who saved a woman’s life. She was going to walk into her house and end herself, but he smiled and waved at her from across the street. He ran over to her and asked her how her day was, in a completely mundane conversation, which led to her talking to him for hours. His mere existence on that day and in that place changed her whole perspective, resulting in her deciding to spare her life for the hope that she could help others like her.…

The Last Day Sweat was gleaming off my face as I finished lifting our couch into my mother’s van. It was a familiar action, we has always been moving around. We had held many houses for rent, each for one year at a time. We never stayed anywhere for long, presumably because nobody liked renting to single mothers with five kids. We were always drifters, seeking houses for rent and never having a permanent situation.…
