Introduction
Tia, a 6 year old girl, lives with her divorced mom because her biological dad is in prison. Once her dad is released from prison, Tia goes to spend the weekend with him every so often. Little did she know, Tia 's father would sexually abuse her continuously throughout the months. After Tia had been abused for some time, she began hurting herself. ¨In the year that followed, I began self-harming and I tried to kill myself three times.¨ To help herself, Tia began seeing a counselor, Angela, that made her think differently about the world and about herself. The main types of child abuse are physical, sexual, emotional, and verbal abuse. Physical abuse to a child is described as the use of physical force that may result in bodily injury, physical pain, or impairment. Sexual abuse to a child is described as forcing undesired sexual behavior by one person upon a child. Emotional abuse to a child is a form of abuse in which a person subjecting or exposing a child to a behavior that may result in psychological trauma. These types of psychological trauma include: anxiety, chronic depression, or posttraumatic stress disorder. Statistics show, 1 in 4 boys and 1 in 8 girls are abused before the age of 18. Overall, 1 in 20 children are physically abused each year. A survey was conducted for the students of Paoli Jr. Sr. High School. The question asked was ¨How common do you think child abuse is in Paoli?¨ The results were very interesting as demonstrated by the graph. Over half of the students who took the survey, feel that child abuse is common in Paoli and that they see it from time to time. Substance abuse among the family is the biggest cause of child abuse in the world. These substances include alcohol abuse and drug abuse. Alcohol and drugs do not limit your actions once you have had enough. This is how most children are abused in their home life. Substance abuse within a family usually indicates a poor home life, leading to abuse. The best way to avoid substance abuse that leads to child abuse is to not use these substances abusively to lead to your child 's harm or injure their well-being (¨Child
