Club Soccer Discourse Community Analysis

Since I was four years old, I have been a part of the Club Soccer Discourse Community, and this year it will be my eleventh year. Being apart of this community has not only developed my game, but it has caused me to grow as a person. Over the past years, I have gained a better understanding of the rules, expectations, and support that the community shares. The general concept of the rules remained the same for a few years, however, this year, the community has enforced stricter rules due to the amount of trouble that was happening. There are four specific rules that members must follow, including: no fighting, show up for practice on time, a red or yellow card is not permitted, and you must show up to both practices in order to play the next game. For centuries these rules have been a part of the community, and failure to abide to them will result in suspension, extra conditioning, temporary or permanent removal. The vast majority of the members, myself included, share the same goal, and to achieve that goal we must adhere to the stated rules. Due to the recent enforcement of stern rules, the community has also enforced stricter expectations. Leaders of the community expect you to train with heart and passion. Once a new player joins a new team, they are met with respect and kindness, which is another rule. We try to make the “newbies” feel as comfortable as they can be. Communication, teamwork, dedication, and temperament are also important themes/expectations. A vast majority of the members have been with the community for many years, which has caused us to develop a “secret” language. “Drop”, “Line, line, pass it line”, “Through”, and “Come on, let’s go” are all a part of our “secret” language.
