Club Scrub Research Paper

Decent Essays
Why out of the many options for Club-Scrub should Jarumi Vazquez be chosen? Ever since I was a little girl, my dream was to become a doctor. I relished going to the doctors to observe how they would take my mom's blood pressure or how they would inject her. The medical field always seemed to draw my attention. Hence, as I was growing up I aspired even more to become a doctor graduate from UW Madison. Being a doctor is my dream for that reason I want to learn anything that deals with the medical field. I have the desire to learn more about anything that involves medicine. In conclusion, I wish that this paragraph served to understand why I really want to be a part of club-scrub.

The blacker the college, sweeter the knowledge. As kids, we see shows and movies such as A Different World and School Daze then imagine attending an HBCU being fun and adventurous. Not realizing and understanding the essence of having a place in the world where you can relate with people of different shades of melanin and personalities. The mission of an Historically Black College or University is to give blacks the opportunity of higher learning and allow them to graduate with multiple job lineups. From my perspective, an HBCU should make you feel more welcome than a PWI would, make you feel wanted and appreciated.…

During my childhood, I spent an unusual amount of time at construction pads for various reasons, such as friends building new homes and my family looking at new neighborhoods. My father used our time at one of these pads to tie together a lesson. He, in his kind voice, recited First Corinthians 3:11 “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” He went on to tell me how foundations determine the grandness of the structure to come; whether that be physical, spiritual or educational. One day I would like to follow in my father’s footsteps and be a part of the medical community, but to do so I need a well laid foundation to build my medical education upon.…

Well I can tell you this, if an officer that is involved with the D.A.R.E. program is trying to show you the impact of a substance, then why do you see them doing that same substance while off duty? They are either smoking a cigarette or guzzling booze until they are downright wasted, if this is the kind of inspiration that helps you stay away from substances, well it’d work better than what you’re learning from D.A.R.E. A multitude of people believe the D.A.R.E. program should be replaced with a different program that provides a new/better way to fight substance abuse, others believe D.A.R.E. should be able to help in the education…

Considering this goal, the Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine will prepare me the to do just that because of its commitment to holistic medicine, an excellent curriculum, and opportunities for early clinical exposure. The college demonstrates commitment to holistic medicine through an enhanced curriculum that integrates basic science and clinical science material earlier on, which emphasizes the interdisciplinary approach to solving medical problems. Also, I am interested in the university’s DOCARE international organization. This club seems like it would be a good fit for me since I love to travel and strongly want to help…

Attending a school that emphasizes diversity like the University of California, Los Angeles allowed me to interact with dissimilar people and immerse myself in many cultures different from my own. Through conversations outside of class and attending multiple culture nights, I was able to experience some of the customs, values, and beliefs of other cultures I had never been previously exposed to. However, most of my understanding has come from my service in Dr. Amy Waterman’s lab at the UCLA Transplant Research and Education Center. The research lab aims to reduce racial disparities in transplant. An example of our discoveries during research was results showing that minorities, especially African Americans, are less likely to pursue living…
