One experience that shaped my character as a person was my part-time job in high school. I worked as tour guide in San Francisco’s Chinatown. Being a tour guide pushes a person to be open minded and curious about other people. I remember having a tour group from New York City, and we had a great conversation when we were comparing our respective Chinatowns. The conversation had me continuously think of questions and reply to their question with an answer to the best of my ability.…

The TWRC’s volunteer program and numerous activities that you can sign of for is quite the experience for any and every one. During my time as a volunteer I learned a lot about the TWRC and the animals it cares for. My hopes for the Freshman Retreat aren’t much. I wish to connect with the people in my advisory, make new friends become acquainted with more people in my grade. I have had a few friends over the past few weeks, but I would say that we aren’t good enough friends to be considered best friends yet. I always embraced the opportunity involve myself in co-curricular events as it provides me with an opportunity to engage with students outside of a classroom teacher, and involve myself with their lives outside of the usual teacher/student setting. By understanding a student outside of the classroom, I feel that I can better understand them and can create quality teaching and learning experiences from this. Reflection on my teaching is vital to my development. My Professional Development Plan has been invaluable to my ability to improve my teaching, and I have always received positive feedback from my supervisors. I have also taken the opportunity to mentor pre-service teachers to reflect on my teaching and learning.…
