Cloze test was first introduced by Wilson Taylor in 1953; it is his way that he used to determine and to measure the level of native speaker language proficiency in reading. Commonly cloze test would usually require a simple test of providing appropriate or exact answers to fill a blank from a passage where certain words are deleted. This is to test reader’s ability to comprehend the text given and also for them to be able to determine and provide the best answers from their own understanding on the passage given. Cloze test can also be seen as a ‘fill in the blank’ test where the test takers’ objective is to fill in the blanks. There are two types of cloze test, one is where there is no suitable answers provided for all the missing words in a passage or sentences, for this test takers’ would be given mark or points if there were to provide the exact or appropriate answers for each questions while the other type of cloze test provided test takers’ with multiple choice answers. Cloze test is simple test that were created to determine students’ or in earlier case, native speakers’ level in English and it was done is such a way where those test takers can use their language ability and proficiency in the test to measure how well they actually are in mastering the language.
