We, as a community, are responsible for encouraging others to be academically honest. Our faculty holds the responsibility of educating our students about plagiarism. Instructors should teach students about what plagiarism is, ways to avoid it, and what the consequences are when caught plagiarising. Instructors should be checking for signs of plagiarism during grading of the assignments. If found, appropriate action should be taken and a report should be made.

In the meeting the following needs to be addressed:
Inform the student of the evidence you found that confirms plagiarism occurred.
Listen to what the student has to say about the matter.
Explain what plagiarism is, why it isn’t tolerated, and how they can avoid it next time.
Read the college’s plagiarism policy and consequences to the student.
After the meeting decide what course of action needs to be taken (if this was a first offense.) Again remind the student of the consequences that will occur if plagiarism occurs again. Do not discuss any other students that may be involved in the situation. The student’s right to privacy need to be maintained and are not relevant to the other student’s involved.
Record/report the offense.
Record the incident on a report form.
Send a copy of the report form, the assignment, and the evidence of plagiarism to the Dean
Keep a copy of the report form, the assignment, and the evidence of plagiarism for your own records.
If the Dean’s records indicate that this is not the student’s first offense other action may happen. The Dean and instructor will decide if further action is required/needed.
