Clover Patch Farm Observation Report

On October 13, 2015 as a class we traveled to Clover Patch Farm near Millersburg, OH. Allen Kozak and his wife operate 420 milking cows and 800 head total farm. They do have a follow CNMP, but are required no permits. Allen operates a compositing bedding pack that consist of manure and sawdust. The way it works is that they have four foot walls to contain the composting area. They always leave about a foot left in the area so the cows do not have a far step from the alleyway. They layer the sawdust up to every other day and after sometime the area starts composting on its own. Allen said the level the manure was at has stayed the same for a couple months now. They use a cultivator hooked to the tractor to cultivate eight inches of the manure.
