Clouds By Gary Sobiech Essay

Can someone make you so happy you feel like dancing in the clouds? The song I picked is Clouds by Zach Sobiech. I chose this song, because it says he fell down in a hole, but someone was there to pick him up. This was my year. I had some ups and downs through my 8th grade year, but there were three ways that helped me go through the downs and all the way through the ups. Swimming, friends and family all helped me up through hard times in my 8th grade life. My friends helped make my life better. They help me smile. I was having a rough day, but my friends helped me look up and smile. “And I needed a way to climb and grab a hold of the edge, you were sitting there holding a rope” (Sobiech). This quote from the song relates to my year because when I had a rough time my friends were there to help me. When I was struggling with putting my life together with a lot of stress, my friend was there to listen to my problems. This is like her holding a rope for me to help me make life a little easier. This year was really stressful with friends and school . This year I learned what a “fake” friend can do to you internally. Swimming relives so much stress for me, because I can swim all my anger out. “Be ready to live and it’ll be ripped out of my hands”(Sobiech). This quote relates to this because I can finally live without all the worries and stress about friends or school if I swim. So swimming rips the worries and stress away from me. I learned that it is unhealthy to keep all your anger in. It can affect you internally and externally. Swimming is another alternative for me to let all my anger out instead of showing it towards other people. People can tell if you are happy or unhappy by your facial expressions, so people would ask me what happened. I don’t like talking to people about my feelings, so I would shut them down. This is how I hurt some of my relationship to my friends and

Everytime I read a book, I find myself either loving the book or not being interested at all. The Glass Castle, Jeannette Wall’s memoir recounting her childhood, keeps readers captivated, and contains many raw emotions. When I was reading the novel, I had to remind myself that this really happened to someone. It amazed me that someone could come out of a situation as difficult as hers and still be successful. Going through a difficult time, your true personality can come out.…

“The Lottery” and “The Man to Send Rainclouds” are quite similar since the stories both have a ritual. In “The Lottery” their ritual isn’t held together by its tradition and overall loses it’s meaning; meanwhile in “The Man to Send Rainclouds” their ritual is kept to its tradition and is done in hopes of getting rain for the crops. These two stories show what happens when tradition is kept and when it is lost along the way. Being aware of the expected ceremonies helps to maintain the integrity of it all and not let it be done in vain. Shirley Jackson and Leslie Marmon Silko bring amazing work to the table but these two stories have so much in common yet at the same time are very different.…

The song I chose is “Surfin’ U.S.A.”, is characterized by the Beach Boys. I chose this song because of how laid back the tune sounds and makes me want to relax. It’s relaxing because the song reminds me of the beach and the sounds of the waves. In the song it talks about how they will be gone for the summer and to tell the teacher they have gone surfing. The summer always reminds me of the beach and all the surfers in the water.…

The Lesson in Quitting For the past 7 years of my life, swimming has played a huge role. Growing up, I had always enjoyed being in the water, and was one of the odd kids that genuinely enjoyed swimming lessons, no bribes required (thinking about it, I wish I had some of those kids in the lessons I teach now). Overtime, it began to feel less like a passion and more like an obligation; something I had committed to that was too late to stop. I was afraid to quit, afraid to disappoint, and trying to be dedicated to a sport I had lost interest in made me start to hate it. This year, I finally decided to drop the sport, and am now embracing the huge change it has had in my life.…
