Compared to ready-made clothing the time it took to produce a single piece of handmade clothing was expediential. Many families during the medieval times would have to produce their own fabrics due to the extremely hefty price (tailoring). And since fabrics cost so much money most families of middle or lower class would use one or two pieces of fabric to reduce waste and use belts, sashes, or pins to help keep the clothing secure to them; most of this clothing would be seen as very oversized compared to today’s modern sizing charts (tailoring).
