Clothing has been changing form time to time over hundreds of years. Styles have been changing because of the social changes in America. Throughout history there has been a direct relationship between clothing styles and development in clothing materials. Clothing is used to cover people and keep them warm or protect them.
During the industrial revolution the men basically worked and the women stayed home and really didn’t need too much clothing. Women only had about 2 outfits just like the men and children. The wife of the house sewed and hand made all the clothing in the house. They even hand made the fabric. “fabric they made or purchased locally” (tailoring). The clothing were not hard to sew they were actually quite simple but they were very time consuming. The style of the clothing during these times were over sized, belted , or robed. Once the war started thousands of men needed uniforms and more clothing to be sent out to war with. We need a mass production of clothing immediately. “at the outset of the Civil War , most uniforms were custom made in workers homes under government contract.
