On the plantation is Mr. St. Clare, the owner, his daughter Eva, and a very important slave named Uncle Tom. Eva is presented similarly to Georgiana as a young woman who sees the evil of slavery and voices her opinions on the matter. Both fathers of the characters are not devoted to being a Christian as their daughters are. A little girl named Topsy becomes friends with Eva. Eva helps Topsy through her constant troubles with her master and become a better person through Christianity. In Clotel, Georgiana convinced Carlton that Christianity is a good thing to follow and that the slaves should have freedom after her father passed away. Not only was Georgiana influential, but Eva was as well. Topsy, a little slave girl, was turned into a well-trained servant with the help of Eva by showing Topsy that she can be loved even though she was not an ordinary person. She also influenced Mr. St. Clare, her father. After soon finding out when she would go to heaven, she made her father promise one thing.
