The closing of schools has had a huge effect on the students, teachers, and parents due to the fact that closing of schools has transferred children into other neighborhoods. In the article “Philadelphia School District Plans to Close Dozens of Schools”, Jon Hurdle talks about how the schools are closing due to being underused, under financed, and under performing problems that put the school in bad educational The first reason Jon Hurdle says the schools are closing is because they are underused. There are not enough students to fill the seats in the schools. For example, University City High School only has 600 students filling its 2,200 available seats. Across the whole district, there are 195,000 seats available, but 53,000 are empty. …show more content…
The Philadelphia School District plans on downsizing that would close 37 campuses by June. For instance, the schools face a very aggregate money situation that will deficit of $1 billion over the next five years after $419 million in the states is cutting its education financing this year. This is saying that, since the state is cutting educational finance this year it makes it hard to support the kids' academic learning and to get what they need to make that happen.Even so, they end up borrowing around $300 million to help continue to pay for the educational year, but they can't keep it up any longer to borrow that kind of money because of its credit reach. Along the school district facing an increasing budget over the years and school borrowing money to get through these years the district shortfalls of $27.6 million left.
The last reason why the schools are closing is because of the underperformance of the schools. The students performing poorly is leading them to fail and meet the school acquired focus. For example, 80 percent of 11th graders are in the lowest average reading level in the state tests. This can show that some students are probably not getting the right education needed to pass the state's test.
