Head injuries are becoming increasingly talked-about, primarily due to concussions and their link to NFL players, but it is a serious injury that deserves attention. A head injury is any trauma, mild or serious, to the scalp, skull, or brain. A head injury can either be closed or open. A closed head injury is a hard blow to the head from an object, but the strike did not break the skull. An open head injury means a hit with an object that broke the skull and entered the brain.
Head injuries include Concussions, scalp wounds, hematomas, and skull fractures, to name a few. Concussion is the most common type of traumatic brain injury in which the brain is essentially “shaken”. Head injuries may also cause bleeding in the brain tissue and/or the
