The 2007 film written by Diablo Cody and directed by Jason Reitman, chronicles the life of a teenage girl who, after a one-night hookup with her best friend, discovers that she is pregnant. Juno MacGuff is a quirky, off-beat teenager who doesn’t seem to care what others think of her. When she finds out that she is pregnant, she knows that she isn’t ready to be a mother, but isn’t sure what to do about her most recent dilemma. After talking to the baby’s father, who happens to be her best friend, Paulie Bleeker, she decides that it would be a better idea to have an abortion. However, Juno ultimately decides that she can’t go through with it. She decides to give the baby up for adoption instead. The next step is to tell her dad and step-mom about the unwanted pregnancy, and although they are upset at first, they eventually come to terms with the situation. Juno finds Mark and Vanessa Loring, through an ad in the PennySaver, and decides that they would be the perfect couple to raise her unborn child. Juno and her father meet with the Lorings and their lawyer to discuss the adoption, and decide that a closed adoption would be the best option. Through the ups and downs of Juno’s second and third trimesters, her relationship with Bleeker begins to go downhill as they grow apart from each other. But back at the Loring house, things aren’t as perfect as they seem. Mark and Vanessa end up getting in a huge fight that ultimately ends in them deciding to get a divorce. Australia seems to be blessed for producing beautiful films about real life situations fraught with meaning and mystery. The movies “Puberty Blues” and “The Year my voice broke” are of no exception. The landscape seems so realistic on the screen, and the sense of Australia's isolation does as well. The subject matter and thematic thrust of Puberty Blues is the girls’ inceptive desperation to hook into the “in-crowd”, but with a strong feminist kick.…

The film Juno, a comedy recorded in 2007, by director Jason Reitman, is about a high school student, Juno MacGuff, who is 16 years old and discovers that she is pregnant by her friend Paulie Bleeker. The movie is told over those nine months of her pregnancy, her options and decisions about keeping the baby or having an abortion, and how her plans unravel as she talks and interacts to all the people in her life, including later the couple she chooses to give the child to. This Oscar winning screenplay displayed teenage pregnancy in a more positive way, as much as they could, which had never been attempted by the movie or TV show industries. Juno created a change not only on the view of teenage pregnancy but also a new idea about gender roles and issues. This movie is also one of the first ones to deal with a teenage pregnancy this efficiently when it comes to a decision and telling her parents, since she immediately took the mature route instead of thinking her life was over and was…

“Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person’s character lies in their own hands” (Anne Frank). The American Heritage Dictionary defines the word good as, “Of moral excellence; upright,” and the word parent as, “A person who raises a child.” These words alone give little indication of what being a good parent really entails. A good parent is more than just a mother or a father who raises a child. As a mother of three, I strive to be what my definition of a good parent is to my children.…
